A management letter is not a scorecard. It is a list of weaknesses observed during fieldwork, ranked by how they could distort the accounts or hide misstatement.
Separate findings that need a policy rewrite from those that need a missing approval trail. Policy gaps take committee time; missing trails often need only a clearer stamp and retention habit.
Assign each item an owner and a date before the next interim visit. Auditors will re-test; open items without owners tend to reappear with stronger wording.
If a finding touches cash disbursements or inventory adjustments, treat it ahead of cosmetic disclosure comments. Sequence matters more than volume of completed actions.
